Baby black screen app: what fake-off mode does
Black mode fills the app with a plain black display. The phone is still on; the app simply shows no buttons, videos, or ordinary tap effects.
What “fake-off” means
It describes the appearance, not the phone’s power or security state. Starting Black mode does not switch the device off, suspend every background task, or guarantee that system buttons and gestures are blocked.
Pair it with iPhone Guided Access or Android screen pinning to restrict leaving the app. Set up and test the system lock first.
Black screen or the power button?
If your goal is to turn off the display and lock the device normally, use the phone’s own lock button. Baby Lock Screen is useful when you specifically want an app displaying a still screen, with saved appearance choices and optional dimming, inside a system app-lock session.
How to start and exit
- Select Black in Screen settings, or leave the default selected.
- Choose whether to lower brightness and start the screen.
- Enable Guided Access on iPhone, or confirm screen pinning on Android.
- To leave, end the system session using its controls and authentication. Use the app’s two-finger hold for three seconds to return to its controls; on iPhone this gesture is disabled during Guided Access.
See exit help and troubleshooting.
A black screen is not a health claim
The app has not been shown to reduce a child’s phone interest, improve development, or calm tantrums. Research about ordinary screen media does not establish a health benefit for a blank display. Our guide to “low-stimulation” claims explains what the evidence can support.
